Characteristics: Because
this parcel of Les Perrières is so small, and
therefore not able to be worked with any form of mechanisation,
we decided to plant it in ‘foule’ (close)
plantation, using ungrafted plants, in order to provide
‘parent’ plants for grafts for the other
vineyards. The parcel is very densely planted (18 500
plants per hectare) with a massale selection taken from
cuttings from the same vineyard, which were then planted
without grafts, as was done before the phylloxera epidemic.
The results are so far impressive because the plants
have adapted very well. The wine is very complex and
exceptionally well-balanced considering the age of the
vines.
To accompany: This wine is a curiosity
for lovers of great wines. It is an initiation to pleasures
of the past. Planted on the same terroir as the Perrières,
it is interesting to taste the same vintage of these
two wines, where the major difference is that one has
grafted plants, and one does not.
